Holiday Windows

Erica created a fabulous holiday window at trinket. It featured items from the twelve days of Christmas but reworked to reflect our merchandise.

I love holiday windows and one of my favorite places to be inspired are the windows in NYC. Here is an interview with Simon Doonan, the window designer at Barneys and Jonathon Alder's significant other.

The Uniform Project

I stumbled upon this cool project -

The Idea

Starting May 2009, I have pledged to wear one dress for one year as an exercise in sustainable fashion. Here’s how it works: There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. Every day I will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies. Think of it as wearing a daily uniform with enough creative license to make it look like I just crawled out of the Marquis de Sade's boudoir.

I wonder if I could do this? You would have to be so creative. Could you?

Nicole's Threads

We discovered a new jewelry maker in town, her name is Nicole Carey. She has just moved to Vermont and her jewelry is great! She makes the cutest button bobby pins and button earrings. She also makes stoneware earrings, and porcelain and stoneware rings. She makes her own porcelain and most of her pieces are one of a kind. Come and check it out at Trinket!

I'm back from vacation! I wish that we had these great totes from Saltbox in before I left. They would have made the perfect carry-on bag. Oh well.

These are heavy duty canvas bags that are hand silk screened, producing subtle variations. Just like your favorite jeans, they will break in and give you years of enjoyment.

We've added another local artist to our mix subsixstudios. Not only is Kacey a wonderful jeweler but she also creates textile pieces. We have these wonderful recycled fabric loop pieces and the yarn necklace pictured in the bottom left corner.

Celebrity sighting

Patty Griffin was in town today to play a show at the Shelburne Museum with Emmylou Harris, Shawn Colvin and Buddy Mille. Patty made a stop at trinket and bought one of our unique bracelets from Eric Silva. It was a titanium cuff with a carved antler wing as the clasp.

Alloy Jewelry

One of our favorite local artists, Leah Jones has created a new design in her very popular initial series. We can special order any initial and they come in a small style (about the size of a penny) and a large style (about the size of a quarter). They make a great graduation or birthday gift!

A sunny day...

The clouds have moved on and it feels great to be enjoying a sunny day. Here's an image from the shop that makes me think of going to the beach...

The carved antler necklace is by Silva Studios,
button earrings by Rebecca Coagan, owl ring by Joli, and the great $3.00 matches from HomArt.

Fresh Outlook

"Accessories are no longer an afterthought — they’re the main attraction, as shoppers look for inventive ways to make their archived wardrobe look fresh and modern. But what’s the best way to mix and match without looking cluttered or silly? Four designers put the pieces together to convey their visions for the season and infuse old classics with new drama." by Ellen Tien in The Sunday NY Times

Happy go lucky bags

Where did the sun go? I really enjoyed it and warm weather this week but the rain has arrived. It's time to break out a colorful bag to cheer myself up. We got in a huge sling version of the bags pictured to the left. It's made by Latico and it brought a smile to my face.

Good golly miss molly!

We got in some lovely jewelry from molly m designs this week. I'm in love! All of the pieces are made by Molly in the San Francisco bay area. Her pieces are "inspired by forms in built and natural landscapes- a skyline, a bird in flight, botanical forms, a shadow..." Molly has an architectural background and uses a laser cutter to create each piece. Whenever possible, the designs are created with sustainable materials and recycled felt.

I love local artists

When I decided to open an accessory only store, I thought it would be a great way to showcase all of the local talent that we have in Vermont. Pictured here is a piece by Tamar Schechner. She creates her one of a kind necklaces from vintage pieces.

Tokyo Bay watches

Happy one month birthday trinket! And a big thank you to all of our wonderful customers! You all have been very supportive!

We got in our Tokyo Bay watches this week. This watch is named Sand and retails for $72. We also got in a cool collection of laser cut wool felt necklaces. They're made by Nervous System. I had to have one for my very own!

The mighty wallet

We just got in these wallets. They are eco-friendly, tear and water resistant! They are made from a single sheet of a super strong microfiber called Tyvek. They are made by Dynomighty Design. It's a really slim wallet but can expand to meet your needs. It has 2 pockets for cash/receipts, 2 outside pockets for more junk and can hold up to 16 credit cards. Okay- if you have 16 credit cards, we need to talk.

My best friend Caitlin sent me this picture of Bean (short for Beantown). Oh my gosh can someone knit these caps for trinket? There are so many furry, four legged babies in Burlington that would love a chapeau.

Here is an image that Jen posted on her blog. Thanks Jen! Her jewelry has been doing amazing. We sold quite a few pieces in the last couple of days and are eagerly awaiting more!

Here we go...

We've had a great first day, stressful but fun. Sara and I managed to learn the basics of the cash register. We're use to running sales on a computer and going back to basics threw us!

People have been really receptive and seem genuinely excited to have an accessory store. They love the fact that we're carrying Jennifer Kahn- our favorite local artist.

The night before the first day

I'm so nervous! There is still so much to do and tomorrow is our first day. I have to fill the window, learn how to use a cash register (!), clean, and there is still merchandise to put out. As Christina said- "breath in, breath out".

I would like you to meet trinket.

I always loved this space and it became available right before Christmas, so I snapped it up! This is the future home of trinket- an accessory store.

You may be wondering why I would want to open another store. I love accessories and in light of the current economic situation, accessories can really stretch your wardrobe.
