Letters to Santa

I asked my sister to ask her third grade class to write letters to Santa.  I thought they would make a cute holiday display.  Her initial reaction was that they didn't believe in Santa.  But she went ahead and asked them and their response was - oh yes indeed we believe in Santa!  They each wrote a letter and paired it with a picture.  I wish I could show you all of them - precious and hilarious.

The trinket "elves" wrote them back.  My sister said that her students were so excited, they carried their letters by hand because they didn't want them to get messed up in their backpacks.  Some even want to be pen pals with their "elf".  Priceless.

Coral and Tusk

Recently on 11/11/11 my husband, David and I went to a Corduroy Appreciation Day dinner party. Get it 11/11/11? Everyone was was dressed in corduroy but David took the prize for most corduroy in one outfit. Shirt, pants and a blazer all in corduroy. He's a big blazer fan and when Trinket got in the new Coral and Tusk badges I just knew the fox one would make the outfit. So very The Fantastic Mr.Fox, which is one of his favorite movies. There are several other great badges in including a badger badge! We also have some beautiful pillows from Coral & Tusk.

Another obession

I'm not a huge tea fan but I am a huge fan of this candle.  The scent is warm and comforting without overwhelming the room.  It's pretty neutral too, my husband is not a fragrance guy but he enjoys this scent or at least puts up with it.

Where did the time go?

It seems like it was just summer yesterday and here we are in November!  We've been super busy getting ready for the holidays.  Jonathan Adler has been a big hit at the shop and we're loving the new ceramic animal pieces.  If you know me at all, you know that I am a HUGE squirrel fan.  I just love them and what's not to love about this cute couple?

Farmer's Market

This was an important week at Burlington Farmer's Market - most of the vendor's banded together to support their fellow farmers and small business friends that were affected by Irene.  They will be donating a percentage of their profits to help the victims of the storm.
The lovely Jennifer Kahn was no exception.  She donated a pair of gorgeous earrings to the raffle that will benefit the Vermont Disaster Relief fund.  Also please note the leather cuff she's wearing - a new product, coming soon to trinket!

Shelburne Museum

I went to the Shelburne Museum this past weekend to see the fashion exhibit.  It was pretty interesting.  This was my favorite piece - a hat/headdress worn to a party by Estee Lauder.
I also loved was embroidered on the inside of Elsa Schiaparelli's purse.  What a great idea.  If you go, don't miss the Paperwork in 3D exhibit.  It was really cool.

Jazz Fest

The 2011 Discover Jazz Fest was in full swing today and it was a beautiful day for it.  We had some great high school bands perform during lunch and some not so great street musicians play all day long.
Leunig's is always rocking- Jazz fest or not.  Myra Flynn has played a few nights there this week.  She is now also selling her original lyric jewelry at trinket!  You can own your very own piece of her music.

Who's your buddy?

I've been carrying this tote from Giacini Atelier around for the past year and it has served me well.  It's rugged, can hold a little or a lot and the versatile straps are a great idea.  I'm known as a "bag lady" and this tote is definitely in my top ten.  Plus, I can show off my pug loyalty!

We currently have scottie, chihuahua, labrador, great dane, boxer, pug, greyhound, and retriever available.

Please give a warm welcome to Alena Botanica

"alena is a designer and artist.  she creates garden-inspired art & designs out of her studio, alena botanica, which resides inside of her 1870s waterbury, vermont home.  this design studio is inspired by plants and manifests itself in photographs on canvas, living art, garden designs and apparel.  the botanical world is her inspiration and deeply interconnected to all of her products. my love of color, texture and pattern inspire me to plant gardens and design apparel.  plants and the places they grow move me to photograph and make
art.” alena’s apparel and photographs are printed in the small village in which she lives.  alena thinks that everybody needs to plant art into their homes and gardens."

Oh happy day...we got in a ton of new cards!  I love a good card and since Scribbles has closed, Burlington has been severely lacking in my card purchasing requirements.  The one pictured above is from Seltzer.  We also got in a nautical selection of boxed cards and journals from Thomas Paul.  No more anxiety about where to get a good card...

Elle Paisley

Lisa Scrivner of Elle Paisley was featured in a recent article in the Burlington Free Press.

"Burlington artist Lisa Scrivner always had an affinity for pocket watches and neo-Victorian design. She put her vision to use locally after a move from Oregon to Burlington and has set up shop creating and selling her "steampunk" jewelry.
What exactly is steampunk? And how does it translate to your jewelry?

Steampunk is a variation of science fiction (inspired by the novels of Jules Verne, H.G. Wells and Mary Shelley) and more of an idea of an alternate history. It is the result of asking what today's technology would look like if it was designed by people living in the early 19th century/Victorian era -- typically using the ideas of steam power and clockwork mechanisms. My designs incorporate vintage watch movements and clockwork, brass, antiqued silver, Victorian and Elizabethan stamping and castings, turn-of-the-century decorative hardware, and special charms and adornments.

How did you begin making what you make?

In 2009 after losing both my grandfather and my job, I knew that I had to create something. After immersing myself in the local hardware store (Hippo Hardware in Portland, Ore.) and finding a treasure trove of clockwork on eBay, I knew I had found my niche. All of my earlier pieces were designed for my partner, Mae. After working on my techniques and finding that people were actually interested in what I was designing, I started selling at small craft/street fairs in PDX (Portland, Ore.) and then launched my Etsy site.

Where do you sell?

I do most of my business through my Etsy shop online. ( You can also find my work at Trinket in downtown Burlington and at Presents of Mind in Portland, Ore. Occasionally, you can find me at local craft fairs like SEABA's ARThop and the Queen City Craft Bazaar. I will be at the TWIST craft show in Northampton, Mass., on May 6 and 7 ( and the Queen City Craft Bazaar at Union Station in Burlington on June 4 (

Who are your idols?

I really look up to people who do what they love and love what they do. Those who aren't afraid to go rogue and pave their own way through life. Other artists, writers and musicians -- they inspire me to keep creating, to keep dreaming of the possibility of impossibilities and to keep believing in myself.

What are some of your favorite things about the Burlington arts scene?

I love that the Burlington arts scene is so accessible. In my experience, it has been very do-it-yourself ,and the other artists I have met have been super-supportive of each other. The arts scene in Burlington is very diverse and yet it still feels like a cohesive community, and I like that.

What's next for you?

I have visions of expanding my line with mini top hats and decorative eye patches.

And then there were rings...

Jennifer Kahn succumbed to the numerous pleas for rings.  Aren't they lovely?  I got to try them all on on Friday and the weight and feel of them are perfect.  Alone, they make quite a statement or stack them with one of your own skinny bands for a nice mix of metals.

For the vegans

Vermont is sometimes stereotyped as a hippie paradise.  Granted, we do have our fair share of Birkenstock, long skirt wearing gals (and sometimes guys).  We also have our fair share of stylish eat locally/shop locally, organic food, vegan/vegetarian types.   Did you know that we carry stylish, vegan handbags?

style spying

I'm doing my favorite Sunday activity...strolling through style blogs and fashion sites.  It can help inspire some outfits for the week ahead.  I came across this picture on Mr. Newton.  Check out her ring - doesn't it look just like the ones that we have at trinket?!

We're getting cards!

We finally took the plunge and ordered cards!  I'm a huge card-a-holic and when Scribbles left, I was devastated.  They're is no where in Burlington to get a decent letterpress card.  I am forced to stock up when I travel and I even asked my best friend for cards as a gift.  It was an awesome gift - by the way...

Screech Owl (see above) was on our radar for the last year.  Love their simple animal out of context design.  Another favorite was Pistachio Press.  We fell in love with their story - high school sweethearts, she does the design, he runs the letterpress and they even make a card with the station wagon on it from the driver's ed class, where they met.  Awwwww.

More Earthlust on the way!

Earthlust has some great new designs for spring and one of my favorites was this bike design.  Perfect for Burlington, we are such a bike orientated town.  I spotted quite a few of bikers yesterday in the sub-zero temperatures!  Crazy.

Our spring shipment should be in this week, stop in soon for the best selection.
