Meet our newest friend, Ashkahn!  I'm not really sure how we met but I'm glad we did.  This designer is from LA and is full of enthusiasm - his emails are punctuated with smiley faces and lots of exclamation marks - always a bright spot in the drudgery of reading emails.
Boring would not be a word that I would use to describe him but I love his use of the word.  We got in boring pencils, a boring tote bag, and lots of fun cards.  Look for the hot pink envelopes - those are his designs...

Scout's Honor Co.

We are pleased to announce that as of next week, we will be carrying Scout's Honor Co.  This is a locally produced stationary line.  Annemarie starts all her designs with pen and paper, to ensure "that the hand is at the heart of every piece".

web site

Trinket is 3 years old and still doesn't have a proper web site.  It's mostly my fault - I drag my heels when it comes to writing about the store.  I prefer to make lists.

What is trinket:

-venture into working with local talent
-filled with things that inspire me
-a gallery for good design
-letterpress cards
-rustic modernism
-a personal musuem

Now can someone whip that up into an about page?

Week one

Not a lot to report - the seeds are starting to sprout.  I keep forgetting to mist them, something you're suppose to do everyday.
Once I started to remember, they grew a little more quickly.  I'm not sure if I positioned the wick correctly.  I think is should be below the growing material.

Grow Bottle Experiment

I decided I was going to document the cycle of a grow bottle and I choose basil at random.  I was impressed with was the packaging; every piece is used with the exception of the plastic holding on the cork and the large rubber band.

The kit contains clay pebbles, vermiculite, seeds, the felt "wick", a cork coaster, and plant nutrient.  One thing I should mention is that you will need a one gallon milk/water jug and a spray bottle to store the plant nutrient.

Here is the kit partially assembled.  The felt wick is inserted and the clay pebbles are in and rinsed.  Try to get the wick into an "S" shape to promote good water distribution.
Okay - the last step is to add the vermiculite and sprinkle the seeds.  Then you cover it all with a plastic bag and place it in a warm location, out of sunlight.  The seeds should sprout in 7-10 days.

Grow Bottle

I love these reclaimed wine bottle gardens that we got in this week!  What a great way to re-purpose old wine bottles and the packaging is brilliant! Each bottle comes with organic seeds, the grow bottle, clay grow pebbles, vermiculite (soil less growing material), wool felt wick and a coaster.

After your herbs are all gone, just rinse out the system and replant with your own seeds or we also have the organic replant kits.  Enjoy organic herbs all year round!

Happy Third Birthday, trinket

pillow by Jonathan Adler
Aquarius is the eleventh sign of the zodiac, and Aquarians are the perfect representatives for the Age of Aquarius. Those born under this sign have the social conscience needed to carry us into the new millennium. These folks are humanitarian, philanthropic and keenly interested in making the world a better place. Along those lines, they'd like to make the world work better, which is why they focus much of their energy on our social institutions and how they work (or don't work). Aquarians are visionaries, progressive souls who love to spend time thinking about how things can be better. They are also quick to engage others in this process, which is why they have so many friends and acquaintances. Making the world a better place is a collaborative effort for Aquarians.

Happy Birthday to all you Aquarians! xoxox

The gift show

One of the best parts about the Gift Show, is getting to meet our favorite designers in person.  We were so excited to meet Molly of Molly M and Jenn of paper wings.  It's so gratifying to tell them how much you all love their work and to see how much it means to them.  Without these small artists, we wouldn't have a shop or great products to fill it.  xoxox

One of the easiest ways I find inspiration is through a single object.  It can be a color, a word or a product.  This pillow combines many of my favorites - pom poms, a cute animal, vintage styling and polka dots!  Oh my!

Trinket's third birthday is coming up and I say we have a vintage themed party!

Happy 2012!

Happy, happy new year everyone!  One of our goals is to be more creative this year.  I've gotten a jump on it by joining pinterest - can we talk about how obsessed I am by it?!  I found the image above there.  It blows me away how creative and inspiring people are.  I hope to bring some of that talent and ingenuity to the shop this year.  So stay tuned - Nicolette and our shop friend, Kate are already working on a crafty window for February.

I will also be attending the gift show at the end of month, if you have any ideas of what you'd like to see, I would love to hear from you.
